T-T-T-Teaching English in Boudha

Let's jam with another blast from the past (the Boudha past, that is).

This video is shot in my classroom in Boudha where I taught Beginning English. As you can see, the students are a variety of ages: 10-65. Also, you can see Nawang (the youngest student) messing with the camera when I turn around...punk.

Homestay Family and...Not Homestay Family

Yoyoyoyoyoyoyo.

I'm bad, I know. My plan was to upload video of my homestay family a while ago. But, in Nepal tradition, I ran into some difficulties. First, my paala (dad) and cho-cho (brother) were sick, so I couldn't film them. Later, when I attempted to film my fam, my amala (mother) was breast-feeding when I tried to film. My next video got deleted when my computer didn't have enough space for my next homestay video. And now, after many attempts, I present to you...my homestay family! (Complete with high-pitched Rhys-talking-to-little-kids voice.)

On the other end of the moral spectrum, a week or two ago some friends and I tried to go to a jazz concert that was part of a larger festival called Jazzmandu. When we arrived late, all the tickets were sold out. What to do? Accidentally go to a Dance Bar! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_bar)

Whoops! When in Kathmandu...(go to Dance Bars?)

A quick note on teh life: I am going to Dharamsala, India for a month to teach English (aw hells yeah). New videos to be uploaded with the SUPA FAST internet there.

Peace.

Back from Mustang!

Phew-wi. This blog has taken soooo long to upload. Many many days of slow internet makes uploading a 12 minute video difficult. I do it because I care. ...heh

Here are the two videos that I talk about in my blog:
Ghaparti - Nepalese Wrestling Game (9:00)

Pudja (11:00)
Here are some pictures that accompany the vid. I will make them extra big so that y'all can feel my slow-loading pain:

2:00 - The gorge where all of the clouds are (in between the two real big mountains) is where our bus/plane goes. You can see why it is all kinds of dangerous.

3:40 - Lots of Nepalese helping us get our bus over a muddy hill.

5:40 This picture was taken at the top of a pass. All of the passes are denotes by Tibetan prayer poles and piles of rocks beneath them.
5:40 Campsite at Ghar Gompa, over 13,000 feet.

6:20 - Goats finally cross a bridge after much help from the the students on our trip.
7:30 - This picture was taken from the inside of one of the many caves that we explored.

Thanks for watching! Check in next time, when my homestay family goes viral.

Nepal Walkabout (With a Surprise Ending!)

Ha-wro everybody. I am mere 15 minutes away from meeting (and moving in with) my homestay family. Everybody here has been so welcoming that I am 99% excited and only 1% anxious.

Now let's check out at a video of myself walking around Boudha (Tibetan part of Kathmandu). I hope you enjoy this quick slice of Boudha life.

Bonus video! My Tibetan language teacher, Mingyur-la, sings and dances a Tibetan jig.

Stay updated for a look at Tibetan street art (in Stocky-Jon and Grossnickle style).

Update from Boudha! Rinpoches, defecation, and more!

First, the vid:

And here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Juicy pineapples in the butterfly pavilion in the Sinapore airport. Delicious.

The students sing both of these songs everyday. Maybe I'll try to convince them to change the songs to Party Rock Anthem instead. "Everyday I'm shufflin'."

Slugs makin' love.

Dude cutting off the head of a rooster. On the right side of the picture, you can see the pile of rooster heads on top of the roof.

A sweet mid-bow action shot of Khen Rinpoche.
Jel-yah jel-yong (goodbye in Tibetan),
